Peter Grant Alexis also known as “Hubert” and “Tatáy” of Grenville, St. Andrew who resided in NY, passed away on Monday June 18th 2018 in Brooklyn NY.
He leaves to mourn his wife: Florence; Father of: Sonia, Joan, Joanne; and Robert;, grandfather of: Grant and Jovanne; Great grandfather of: Alea; Father -in-law of: Anthony Howard;
Brother-in-law of: Petty, Uncle of: Marlene, Ann, Andrea, June, Udeen, Val and Elizabeth; Allister, Roger, Dillon and Cleville;
Many cousins including: Winston, George, Deanne, Tyrone, Willie, Joseph and Shemica. Close family friends – Teacher Humphrey, Charles Ferguson, Raymond Rush, Dorcas Hawkshaw, Patricia George, Gregory and Liba, Ormond, Kirt, Seymour, Shelly and other relatives and friends
Peter was born on November 11, 1930 to Hezekiah and Agatha Alexis in Grenville, St. Andrew, he was the youngest of four children.
Peter developed an interest in politics and campaigned under the banner of the Grenada United Labor Party under the leadership of Sir Eric Matthew Gairy.
In 1972, Peter was elected by the people of St. Andrew’s South East and became a Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives where he served two terms.
On March 13, 1979, the People’s Revolutionary Government led by the New Jewel Movement overthrew the Gairy Government. Peter and all elected members of Parliament were taken as political prisoners and incarceration at Richmond Hill Prison.
