Florence James Gibbs also known as “Flo” of Beaulieu, St. George who resided in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Saturday 15th December, 2018 at the age of 99
Florence was born in Beaulieu, St. George on July 7th, 1919 as the 6th child of Tina and Bobby James and resided in Munich, St. Andrew and Brooklyn, New York. She was a God-fearing, faithful, strong and family-oriented woman.
Florence was loved and respected by all who knew her. She was also an independent woman and an entrepreneur. She was known for her famous fish broth and baking – her specialty was coconut tarts.
Family: Florence was the wife of the late Anton Gibbs of Munich, St. Andrew, Was the sister of the late siblings:: Amos James, Elvina Payne, Millie Cobb, Lettie Ashby, Dorris Fraser and Neville James
Mother of Agnita James, Harold James, Patsy Jones, Evodia Velda Gibbs, Brian Gibbs, Brenda Ingrid Gibbs-Douglas, Shirlin Gibbs-Ragin, Sylvester Gibbs (former President of Crochu Pomme-Rose Ex-Students Association) all in the USA, Stephanie Lumsden (Canada) and Selwyn Wayne Gibbs (Trinidad).
Grandmother of: 18 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren, one great-great- grandson. Many nieces and nephews including: Veda Adolphus and family, Cecilia Nicholas and family, Cherra Williams and family, Step-mother of: Neil Mason, Neale Alexander, Francis Gibbs, Joseph McSween, Medrie Braithwaite and the late Preston Joseph Gibbs and step-grandmother of: Prescott Gibbs.
Mother-in-law of: Noreen Williams-Gibbs, Margaret McSween, Roslyn Gibbs, Devere Mike Lumsden, Sebastian Douglas and John Ragin, Close friends of: the Edwards family, Neckles family, Henry family, Lord family and George family of Munich, St. Andrew’s, Margaret and Carmen Nathan of Grand Anse, St. George’s, Grenada and Lisa Matthews in New York.
The Viewing and Service at Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church (331 Hawthorne St, Brooklyn, NY 11225) on Friday, January 4th, 2019 from 5-7PM with a repast following the service.
The Church service at Holy Family Church (9719 Flatlands Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11236) on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 9:30AM followed by the burial at Canarsie Cemetery (1370 Remsen Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11236).
