Anslem Benedict Samuel Affectionately known as “Gordon Hamilton,” “Sammy,” or “Suppose,” was born on April 24, 1948 in Gouyave, St. John’s, Grenada. His transition took place December 2022 at his home in Sacramento, California. Anslem was preceded in death by his parents, Muriel Daphne Samuel and Matthew Bornston Hamilton.
Anslem attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and served as an Acolyte at the church as a youth. He later migrated to the USA and served as a soldier in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He continued to live a life of service, working as a volunteer at a church close to his residence even as his health began to decline in his later years.
Survived by one daughter:Lisa Patricia Samuel of Gouyave, ; two sons: Anslem Samuel Rocque (NY) and Travis “Robby” Samuel (NY); three brothers: Michael Samuel (NY), Basil Hamilton (NJ), and Cyril Hamilton; nine sisters: Ethel Samuel Marshall (South Carolina), Ann Samuel (Grenada), Odessa Samuel (Tennessee), Emma, Jennifer, Wendy, Buntin, Molly Paul (Grenada), and Brenda (England); one aunt, Eliza Thomas (NY),
6 grandchildren including: Akeisha Samuel employed at Clear Harbor, Imani and Samantha Samuel, Cheikh Edwards and Chequan Bernadine. Ella in the US.
10 great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close relatives and friends—including best friend: Gwen Brown (California), and ex-wife Juliette Samuel (Delaware). Anslem’s body will be cremated at the North Sacramento Funeral Home before his ashes are laid to rest at a military cemetery in Long Island, NY at a date to be announced.
