Jean Eileen Renwick Nee Guthrie of Sunnyside, St. Paul's, St. George, passed away on Sunday 8th January, 2023 at the age of 91

Passionate gardener and retired general manager of the Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society.

She was the Mother of: Randall, Vaughn and Lucian;

Grandmother of: Jurana, Randa, Robyn and Geuel, Ian and Michel, Lili, Zindzele and Yele;

Great grandmother of: Dashawn and Laila.

Sister of: Claire and Selwyn.

Jean Renwick became the first General Manager of Demerara Life in Grenada, one of the first female GMs in Grenada, and a top performing salesperson in a field dominated by men. In her working life she challenged gender stereotypes and rules that worked against women in the workplace.

On retirement, she took the opportunity to pursue her passion for gardening full-time and with her husband Robin, created Sunnyside Garden as one of the most highly regarded private gardens in the Caribbean. Her greatest pleasure was to host visitors to the garden.

She was also an inveterate diarist, chronicling the ‘life’ of the garden as the seasons changed, as well as events around her.

A memorial service and scattering of her ashes will take place at a date to be announced.
